How to promote Vocational Service within your Club
Here are a couple of ideas to consider... 1. Promote "The Four Way Test" as "interpersonal relationship" i.e. dealing with external parties and "A Guide to Daily Living" as "intrapersonal relationship" i.e. reflection on personal wellbeing. "A Guide to Daily Living" looks inwards while "The Four Way Test" is about our ethical relationship when dealing with other people. Both compliment each other. How can we best promote these? Ideas: Fireside discussions with the Family of Rotary and forum, essay, speech competition for young people. 2. Classifications - Have your Club members deliver a minimum of 3 Classification Talks at your normal Club meetings. There are two fold benefits:- (a) to know our members better and (b) to increase awareness of career opportunities. As part of career guidance and development, do invite youth, students, Interactors and Rotaractors, teachers to such events. In addition, review your Club membership classification list and to identify three new unfilled classifications. Then, actively seek to fill these vacancies within the Rotary year. Make this one of your Club's membership recuitment goals. I would like to hear what other thoughts/ideas Vocational Service Directors can undertake to create more awareness as well as to reinforce our "Rotary's Identity"? Incoming RI President 2010-2011 Ray Klinginsmith used these two questions, namely, What is Rotary? What does a Rotary club do?, to help crystalised our thoughts on "Rotary's Identity"... His answer is simple - Who were are, and what we are, are best reflected in these four words, "Building Communities - Bridging Continents". As Rotarians, we build the spirit and resources of our local communities and we link and make the world a much better place to live and work.
