Dear Fellow Rotarians

PP Andre Suharto has reported to me that The Rotary Club of Kuching Central has raised more than RM 110,000 for the disaster relief efforts.

They have bought medicine, vital emergency food items and all these were shipped out of Kuching port to Indonesia this morning. More will be sent out later.

So, is your Rotary Club doing something? Please do.

Thank you.

Regards

Dr Ho

Dear Dr Ho,

We are awaiting news from RC Colombo West who will be contacting us tomorrow on the plan of action. We are targeting to send supplies and the team in about 10 - 14 days.

We are working together with the Sri Lanka High Commission who will do the necessary documentation and there is no visa requirement for Sri Lanka.

RC Colombo West are sorting out the customs clearance from their end and we await further instructions from them. Will keep all informed of the progress.

My dear Friends,

May I forward the pictures in the above attachment for your attention. It is sad, pathetic, and awesome.

This has come upon the innocent without any warning. What a pity !

Hopefully, we can do something in a small way at least. Remember, little drops of water makes a mighty ocean. Our little contributions would I feel a service to mankind.

God Bless all.

Dear all,

My apologies for the lateness in providing this update to you.

I have to provide co-ordination works to help the family of the late AG Haji Odita Ibrahim to bring back the body from Cambodia to Kuching.  He died possibly of heart attack.

Back to the relief efforts, I am pleased to inform you that MAS has agreed to sponsor airfreights only medical supplies from Singapore and anywhere in Malaysia to any of the disaster locations namely Aceh (via Medan), Phuket, Maldives, Sri Lanka or other locations for as long as those routes are covered by MAS.

I have been waiting for MAS to give the list of contact persons in each location of MAS offices in Msia and Spore so that each Rotary Club can connect to the right person but as of this morning, 3 Jan 2005, I still have not received the list.

I am therefore suggesting that you contact the MAS office in your location and get to speak to the MAS Area Manager (failing which the Cargo Manager) for that location.

Please pack the items in boxes securely and safely not bigger that 1 1/2 ft (Height) X 2 ft (Width) X 1 1/2 ft (Depth).  This is in view of the Boeing 737 that MAS uses to fly between KL and Medan.  There are 2 flights daily servicing this route.

You must provide your own freight forwarder to do the documentation and if you wish to send the items to the Rotary Club of Langkat, please ensure that each boxed is labelled as follows and consign the goods under the same address:

Consignee:

ACEH SEPAKAT - ROTARY LANGKAT JOINT TSUNAMI OPERATION

JL MENGKARA 2, MEDAN, Sumatera, Indonesia

TLP: +62-812633 5185 (PP. Ibrahim Champion)

Emai: rotarylangkat@telkom.net

I suggest that you use your club as the collection arm from members of the public who wish to donate medical supplies and your club can collect them and send them to MAS.

Although I have not spoken to MAS on this, I suppose it will be perfectly acceptable for you to also use this facility provided by MAS but for items consigned to a different entity that you are working with in Medan/Aceh.

The distant between Medan and Banda Aceh is around 12 hours by road.  It is about 20 hours by road from Medan to Mealaboh.  There is airport in Banda Aceh but MAS does not fly there. Therefore if you wish to go to Banda Aceh, you need to get a connecting domestic airlines from Medan Polonia Airport.  I was told that seats are difficult to get between Medan/Banda Aceh/Medan.

I am only helping to extend to you what we have secured from our side.  I do encourage each club to be resourcefull and take decision to use whichever option is neccessary.  The objective is to get the right stuff to reach the victims at the earliest possible time.

Wishing you all the best.  Remember, every little actions and contributions will help if everyone were to chip in.

Regards
Andre Suharto

Dear Rotarians

In view of Andre Suharto's email, for donations-in-kind, let us now limit them to food and medical supplies.

Regards

Dear one and all,

Not to worry, if the need to open the warehouse, i will be there.
For your information, i was at my own office at 3.30 pm till 5.00 pm
when Dr Khong from NTU call to deliver and we pick another load from
nee soon south cc.

Because i am on the run and also need to rest physically, i am so
co-oordinating for the rotary group and i feel that maldives, sri lanka and india needs help.

Now that the USA and UN are involved in thailand and acheh, we can sort ofwork on the other areas. I been watching the CNN, BBc closely and now the news also  cover iindia, maldives, and africa. U see CNA only asia, but not west asia.

Not forgeting, human survivor within 14 days to 21 days, diseases can happen if people are hungry, nothing to eat and medicine. Dengue, Diarahhea, Cholera and etc will happen. This is worst than the Nagasaki Atomic bomb. In rotary we are talking about humanitarin aids and communities service. Here is a real life scenario.

Let's us do and put our hearts together to do that little bit.As a logistician for couple of years ( 25 years) the only strength that i have is leverage on my connections and contacts to get this thing going.

Just do what you can within your contact ... thats is it.

Dear Fellow Rotarians,

The Rotary Club of Johor Bahru Central and Rotaractors from Johor Bahru, met on Saturday 1/1/05 to collect and sort out clothes to be distributed to those affected by the Tsunami in Kedah following a call for assistance from Yayasan Sultanah Bahiyah on Friday, 31/12/04. A total of 1 ton of children and adult clothing and a sum of RM1,000.00 was presented to YM Tunku Puteri Intan Safinas by VP N Kuna on Sunday 2/1/05 in Kuala Lumpur for its onward journey to Kedah.

We understand there are about 6000 people affected from the villages in Kedah. Should you wish to assist them you may contact Pn Nursiah Hashim 012-3750007 of the Yayasan Sultanah Bahiyah or for more information you may check out their website www.ysb.com.my.

Dear Rotarians,

I wish to inform you that due to unforeseen circumstances two truck loads of dry food, medicines and essential clothing's from District 3310 Singapore originally scheduled to Puket in Thailand had to be diverted to the affected areas of Kuala Muda and the Perlis areas.

The Rotary Club of Sungai Petani has reported that they and the Rotary Club of Alor Setar are coordinating with the Health Department to
distribute these items.

We would like to thank Centennial District Governor Dr. Ivor of District 3310 and the Rotary Club of Singapore for getting in touch with our District Governor Dato' A.P. Perumal for this timely arrangement.

Thank you.
