Good afternoon to All,

I hope that this email finds you in the best of health and happiness.

I just got back from work this morning and just opened my computer.

About the operation costs of the mobile library, it will be great if we can have some helping hands to do it together. But if there isn't anyone willing or available to do it, my wife and I will do our best to do it (while running the orphanage).
The very main thing is to make sure that we can get the books for the children so that they can help themselves by enriching their knowledge for a better future might be.

Have a blessed day to All.

RTN Budi

I believe that there are, at least, three aspects that we can look into, namely,

(a) To have invite Matching Grant parties from other Rotary Clubs...

(b) To obtain fundings for the building of the Library outposts which cannot be secured through Matching Grants...

(c) To enlist volunteers who are prepared to take some time off to come and train the facilitators/helpers in the region...

The Installation is on Friday the 12th of August at The Pines- Ballroom at 7p.m. It is also going to have entertainment and sit down dinner for the contribution of only S$50/- .? Would you possible be able to get your friends to make up a table of  ten ? they will be well looked after by us.  We will assign someone specially to do the same.

I just want to share the activities what our orphanage has been doing in Timor recently.

Peggy (my wife) came home yesterday for a break before leaving for Timor again in a week time.
I will leave Singapore on the 25th morning and will be there with her and my daughters  for 3 weeks.
There will be 9 friends will be joining , some for 5 days and even for a month.

The famine was really bad and so many sad stories to tell.
This time the draught is the worst.
There have been hundreds of children died and many more are still suffering from the hunger.
The orphanage has been doing our best for the last 3 months but having rahter limited capabilities to do more.
At  least twice a week Peggy brought some food with some of our orphanage members to different villages.
We are using 2 pick up cars to do it.
We have been giving away rice, instant noodles, green beans, sugar, salt with yodium , biscuits, milk powder for the babies of age up to 2 years  and vitamins as well as the Malaria tablets and askaris tablets.
The packages were made into one or two kilo gram sizes and we gave away according to size of the families members.

The next visit besides our original Literacy projrect we will distributes help mainly just for the children of 5 years and below as we are not capable to help out the adults any more.
We will be giving away a made green beans soup, and boiled eggs twice a week for the same location
An egg cost about 600 rupiah each in Kupang city ( about 12 Singapore Cents each and will be come almost double when it is close to the year end).
We has been reaching 343  children below 5 years old were being helped so far ( in 16 different villages/ dusun between one two 2 hours range from the orphanage's location).

For one kg of green beans we can make into soup for 20 children ( 20 KG of green beans on each trip) and we will cook it at the village's head homes( we will need some other spices for this soup namely palm sugar, pandan leaves, thin coconut milk).
For each visit we are bringing about 400 boiled eggs ( boiled at the orphanage's location).
We might be able to make porridge too some times.
A very funny or sad thing can be seen when give boiled egg to the children directly. The mother took the egg and will help the children to peel it but the children thought that the mother will eat the egg for her self , so the children will be crying so badly ( miss understanding by the child).

4 days ago Peggy was very sad when she found out about a boy who she was supposed to pick up died.
This boy was suffering from the hunger , Peggy has been working hard for that day and the news about this boy was coming rather late in the evening (so Peggy decided to pick up the boy first thing in the morning).

The very next morning Peggy found out that she was attending a wake rather than pick up this boy .
The boy died because of he could not take the hunger any longer few hours before Peggy came .
Before he died when he was vomiting the are white worms came out .
So not only because of the hunger but it was also because of lagging in sanitation( no water).

From the same village we will have 3 more children to join the orphanage and live with us .
There are so many more suffering children in many different villages in Timor area right now.

For each trip we are spending about 150 SGD for 300 children below 5 years old and we are not giving food for the older one.
We are doing it at least twice a week and it means 8 times per week.
So for 300 children we will need some 1,200 SGD per month and it means about 14,400 SGD per year.
I will cover all the operation costs like the car maintenance, fuel and driver and other labors and coordinating with the villagers .
We wish that we can do this program for at least 3 years that is to really help their nutrition

Have a blessed day to All.

Budi and family

Dear PP Dr Ho

I have reminded President Shirin to follow up with DG Tay Kim Ann, or through his Assistant Governor John Ng, on the District Designation Fund of US$3,000 which we are supposed to get.

Fyi, Rtn Budi Soehardi is following up with the District Governor in Indonesia (District 3400). He is now talking to RC Kupang (a brand new Club) to see if they are prepared to play "Host Club" if the Literacy project is able to take off.

These are some of the things President Shirin must sort out quickly. Once it is done, we are ready to submit the Matching Grant proposal to TRF.

It may interest you to know that several of our Centennial Twin Clubs, including Rotary Club of Johor Centennial and Rotary Club of Port Klang (yesterday), would like to know how we can work closer together!

 Dear Edmund,

Thanks very much for your help.  Our Rotary Club of Channel Islands wants
very much to help, but needs more information before it can consider how to
do this.

Like you, I am also very happy to hear from a dedicated Rotarian like you
three hours away by air.

Meanwhile, we hope to hear from Rtn Captain Budi's soon.

 Many thanks again.

 Alexander.

Dear All,

Very good afternoon and I hope that this e mail finds you in the best health and happiness.

I just got back this morning from New York  and at the moment I am half a sleep still.

My apology that I wasn't able to have an excess to internet and also no time at all.

This morning at 0930AM till 13:00 PM the orphanage is having some 300 children under 5 years old. We provide them food, vitamins and some external medication for thier wounds. We are doing it every Wed at the orphanage, MOnday , Tuesday visiting schools which are located at remote areas. Thu and Fri is for the villages that we have been helping for quite some times. Only Sunday is for us to relax and to get refreshed.

You will not believe that in this modern era , that education is still too difficult for the people in Timor ( physically and financially. Physically as the distance to go to school on foot are too far , and financially are school fees, school uniforms and many other things which are too many to be on the list).

I wish that I can have the time suring the physical meeting and able to tell you in  more details).

The famine is because of the rain which did not fall as usual ( instead of 3,5 months  it was only fell about 3 weeks ) .

People are also not having enough knowledge about sanitation but very often they can not afford to do it as there isn't any water for it.

On this trip we have given our help to about 3500 people from Jul 25th till August 18th ( my wife and my daughters are still doing it till the 31st or Sep 3rd)

I will write further later this evening as I must attend clean up my self and my eyes are really heavy at the moment.

Till then

RTN BUdi.
