Just participated in distributing 5000 stalks of Gerberas with other Rotary Clubs in Singapore to our healthcare heroes to commemorate Nurses Day – the nursing staff at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Their smiles warmed my heart. #thankingnurses
Dear Fellow Rotarians and Friends,
August is a special month in the Rotary calendar – a time when we SHINE a spotlight on Membership and New Club Development. It’s a moment to reflect on the strength of our Rotary family, to welcome fresh energy, and to extend the warmth of our service into new hearts and homes.
This month, as we focus on growing Rotary, let us also remember why people join and stay — it’s the purpose, the people, and the power to make a difference.
At the well attended DG Official Club Visit and Club Assembly on 10 July, DG Dr. Shahul Hameed encouraged all Rotary Clubs to embrace District 3310 Triple 3 Framework, namely:
3 Pillars – Innovation, Continuity, Partnership
3 Tools – Awareness, Knowledge, Action
3 Objectives – Strengthen Clubs, Create Lasting Change, Uplift our Foundation.
Across our club, we’re bringing this spirit of Triple 3 to life through impactful service projects that not only change lives but also inspire new connections:
🌱 Teaching Sustainable Life Skills to At-Risk Youths
Edible Farming Program for Teenage Girls Empowerment @ Gladiolus Place continues smoothly every Wednesday with our zealous members from Community Service taking the lead. It’s wonderful to see the girls gaining hands-on experience in gardening and composting, which not only teaches valuable life skills but also encourages patience and environmental awareness.
At Gladiolus Place and Grace Haven, our Rotarians are rolling up their sleeves to teach meaningful, hands-on skills — from cooking and jelly-making to edible urban farming. These aren’t just activities; they are tools of empowerment, offering vulnerable youths a pathway to self-reliance and dignity. Members who have completed the Protecting Youth Participants online programme for safeguarding are invited to take part. Your presence and mentorship can truly shape futures.
🍱 Happy Meals Weekend Distribution Every weekend at Waterloo Street, our volunteers are out delivering Happy Meals to the elderly and infirm in need. A warm meal, a friendly smile can heal a broken heart, and go a long way in reminding someone they are not forgotten. This is service with heart — and there’s always room for more helping hands. Kudos to the project leads of Happy Meals!
🌼 Celebrating Healthcare Heroes – Gerberas of Gratitude From 24 July to 1 August, together with other participating Rotary Clubs in Singapore, we also said “thank you” to our tireless nurses, our healthcare heroes across hospitals islandwide. Funds for more than 10,000 stalks of Gerberas were donated by the clubs in this
massive Celebrating Healthcare Heroes event, a tradition that continued since 2020 – shout out to PP Agnes Kwek for holding the torch all these years! Salute! The President of Rotary E-Club of 3310 and members participated in handing out the colourful daisies on Nurses Day at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, Tan Tock Seng Hospital and Singhealth Academia. A single bloom carries a powerful message: you are seen, you are appreciated, you matter. A simple yet profound act of gratitude to our caring nurses.
Let these projects remind us that Rotary is more than meetings — it’s a movement. A movement of kindness, service, and lasting impact. July was also a busy month of transition, where we attended multiple club installation parties in town and in Malaysia to celebrate with newly minted Presidents and their BOD over good food, wine and fellowship.
If you’ve ever thought of inviting someone to join Rotary, now is the perfect time. Let them experience the joy of doing good, the friendships that blossom, and the sense of purpose that fills every Rotary journey. At our August 14 meeting, we are proud to feature our long service Past President Tan May Yan, our classification talk speaker on “Risk Management” with a special focus on membership growth.
Together, let’s keep growing, giving, and glowing — shining our light for our communities, for our youth, and for the future of Rotary. We have so much to look forward to in August!
