Rotary Theme: Basic Education and Literacy MonthDear Fellow Rotarians and Friends,
September is a month of great significance as we celebrate
Rotary’s focus on Basic Education and Literacy. This focuses on the Rotary Foundation’s commitment to communities by supporting education and literacy programs worldwide. This theme reminds us of our shared mission to empower children and communities through the gift of learning, which is the foundation of brighter futures.
I look back with pride on last month as the Rotary E-Club of 3310 was invited to be a partner in service with Rotary Club of Kluang for a life-changing literacy project. The official launch was during the DG Official Club Visit. On 29 August 2025, we welcomed
District Governor Dr. Shahul Hameed and First Lady Michelle to Kluang for their official visit to witness the
“Academic Journey Programme”, a joint initiative between
Rotary Club of Kluang and
E-Club of 3310 Singapore. Objective: The Programme will focus on 4 main subjects namely Bahasa Malay. English. Mathematics and Science to prepare Standard 4 – 6 students for their school examination and obtaining a Distinction “A” grade through memory power learning. This Tuition Programme is made possible through the generous support of the
District Training Assembly (DTA) Fund of RM10,000 and Rotary E-Club of 3310 cash contribution of USD3,300. We are proud to share that this initiative will
benefit more than 100 children from needy and underprivileged families, representing schools across the entire District of Kluang. Through this programme, we are not only helping these young learners prepare for their examinations but also nurturing confidence, resilience, and hope for a better tomorrow.
My heartfelt thanks go out to all Rotarians in particular President Alfred Lim, RC Kluang, PP Louis S Martin, Community Chairman, RC Kluang, Charter President Chew Ban Seng, PP Ng Yaw Hua, Rotary Club of Kuching Central. partners in service, and volunteers who made this milestone project possible. Together, we are planting seeds of knowledge that will grow into opportunities for generations to come.
Let us continue to embrace Rotary’s spirit of
“Service Above Self” and be reminded that every child we reach is a step closer to a world of equal opportunity through education. Members are encouraged to participate in activities that raise awareness and support initiatives aimed at improving education for children and increasing adult literacy rates. I believe education is the route out of poverty and can close the big divide in our social fabric.
